I am number 77 on the list of 458 Express enthusiasts. During October 2008 I was invited by Professor Koos Badenhorst to our local town shooting range. It was a rainy cold Saturday but the weather was the last issue I was interested in. We used a Ruger No.1 owned by Professor Koos Badenhorst and fired off loads ranging from 350 grain up to 500 grain bullets. It is always difficult to compare recoil but there is now question that the .458 Express is far more pleasant to shoot than my .458 Winchester Magnum - Zastava bolt action.
In fact I know for sure now that the .458 Winchester Magnum will go out and the .458 Express will move in! I need the .458 Express for guide work and backup shots will be taken from awkward angles and positions from time to time, and then I need at least 450 grains of good quality bullet with a minimum velocity of 2250 fps. The .458 Express will achieve this specification with ease, and accomplish even higher velocities with safe work pressure.
